Hydraulic magnet on excavator for greater efficiency in demolition, recycling and material handling
Whether it’s demolition, structural dismantling, civil engineering or recycling – modern construction sites generate large quantities of steel, iron and recoverable metal scraps every day. These materials need to be collected, sorted and loaded quickly. If this is done by hand or with unsuitable tools, it takes time, ties up staff and slows down the entire construction process.
This is precisely where the hydraulic magnet comes in. As a high-performance excavator attachment, it enables you to pick up ferrous materials quickly and safely. In doing so, you speed up material handling, improve safety on your site and, at the same time, facilitate the proper sorting of recycled materials.
What is a hydraulic magnet?
A hydraulic magnet is an electromagnet for excavators. It is hydraulically powered by the host machine, meaning no additional equipment is required and no installation on the host machine is necessary, which reduces purchase costs.
As soon as the magnet is activated, a strong magnetic field is generated. This reliably attracts ferrous materials such as structural steel, reinforcing bars or scrap iron. Within seconds, thanks to precise release achieved by reversing the polarity of the magnetic field at the touch of a button, the material drops in a controlled manner to the desired location. This method saves many working hours every day, particularly on large demolition projects.
The main advantage lies in the quality. Thanks to the high-quality construction of the hydraulic magnet, it can be used without any problems in continuous operation. Furthermore, it is easy to maintain, as all covers can be removed individually.
The advantages at a glance:
- faster material handling
- reduced staffing requirements
- a cleaner construction site
- greater workplace safety
- more efficient recycling processes
- reduced machine downtime
- maximum durability thanks to high-quality components & manufacturing
- sustanaible & easy to maintain
Typical applications for hydraulic magnet:
- building demolition
- industrial demolition
- bridge demolition
- civil engineering
- railway construction
- tunnel construction
- scrap yards
- recycling center
- steel construction
What materials can be processed?
A hydraulic magnet is suitable exclusively for ferromagnetic materials. These include:
- structural steel
- reinforced bars
- steel beams
- scrap iron
- steel plates
- castings
- pipes
- sheet metal
- metal sections
Materials such as aluminium, copper, brass or most types of stainless steel are not suitable, as they are not magnetic.
Technical data for the Egli hydraulic magnet
For a hydraulic magnet to deliver its full power, it must be perfectly suited to your carrier machine. That is why Gebrüder Egli offers various models for different excavator sizesn.
Hydraulic magnets are suitable for excavators with an operating weight of 6.5 tonnes or more and cover a wide range of applications.
Overview of all models:
| Specification | Unit | EgliMag 720 DRW | EgliMag 720A | EgliMag 920A | EgliMag 1120A |
| Excavator class | t | from 6.5 | from 6.5 | from 20 | from 20 |
| Weight without adapter plate | kg | 860 | 740 | 1'650 | 2'040 |
With these different sizes, you’ll find the right hydraulic magnet for almost any machine, from compact excavators to large demolition excavators.
Further technical data can be found in our brochure.
The ideal weight for maximum performance
The unladen weight of a hydraulic magnet affects both the lifting capacity and the stability of your machine. A magnet that is too small will not allow you to fully utilise your excavator’s power. Conversely, a model that is too large can restrict the machine’s manoeuvrability.
That is why Gebrüder Egli has developed its hydraulic magnets to suit the respective excavator classes. This gives you the optimal balance between empty weight, magnetic force and maximum lifting capacity. This ensures safe operation and high profitability.
